D1 Itinerary
From the trailhead, the trail runs under tree cover, a gentle climb of stairs for about 1.7 kilometers — but that includes several thousand steps. Some sections of stairs have big drops between them, and a few damaged ones can be bypassed; this stretch is pure leg and lung work. Fortunately it's almost all hemlock forest along the way, keeping things relatively cool. Step by step, it took me about 90 minutes to reach Kuhanuoxin Cabin.
Kuhanuoxin Mountain
After a short break at Kuhanuoxin Cabin, switch to a summit pack and head out on the stairs beside the hut; less than 100 meters gets you to the junction. From there it's about 1.6 kilometers one way to Kuhanuoxin Mountain — down first, then up, climbing roughly 100 meters from the junction to the triangulation point. Keep moving without stopping and you'll reach the Kuhanuoxin Mountain Triangulation Point at 3,114 meters elevation within an hour.
After retracing the route back to Kuhanuoxin Cabin, pack up and get ready for the next day.
