D1 Itinerary

To reach the 730 Forest Road Trailhead, you take a shuttle. Given the rough road, which is also narrow and occasionally requires vehicles to pass each other, it takes about an hour — hold on tight, because it gets very bumpy.

The 730 Forest Road is shaded almost the entire way, with the occasional easy water crossing and plenty of running water. The two spots that need the most attention are Waypoint 68, a roped crossing over a landslide about 200 meters from the trailhead, and Waypoint 66, where you need to straddle a small gap — as long as your hands hold the rope firmly, both are safe.

Taking photos and walking along, at around 5.4K you reach the Junction: descent to the creek — turn left here and descend about 1.2 kilometers to reach Erwu Creek. When I got there, the water wasn't high enough to need taking my shoes off; with the help of trekking poles, I could just step across the rocks onto the log bridge. Since a running water source about 40 minutes round trip has already been found near the Campground below Yuanduozhi Mountain, you could consider refilling there instead of carrying water all the way up from Erwu Creek.

Erwu Creek bed sits at about 2,000 meters elevation; leaving here it's a steep climb the whole way up to the Campground below Yuanduozhi Mountain at 2,700 meters. I'd suggest having lunch and resting well here before setting off — including breaks, it took me 2 hours 45 minutes from Erwu Creek bed to the campground.
