D2 Itinerary
From Tianchi Cabin, about 2.7K brings you to the junction for the Monument of Spread Light Across the Land; a short walk to the right gets you to the monument, though it's currently half toppled from earthquake damage. Note that on Day 2, past the monument, almost 70% of the trail becomes arrow bamboo of uneven height. Leaving the monument, return to the junction and continue on. About 1K brings you to a power pylon for a short rest, then about 2K further gets you to the Kaheer Mountain junction at 18.5K. You don't need to switch to a summit pack here — even at a slow pace, you can reach the Kaheer Mountain Triangulation Point within 10 minutes.
Nenggao Main Peak
The Nenggao Main Peak Triangulation Point is about 2K from the Kaheer Mountain junction, with about 180m of climbing. The last one or two false peaks before Nenggao Main Peak require a steep climb through plain mud and loose gravel — using your trekking poles and pulling yourself up on the arrow bamboo along the sides of the trail saves a good amount of leg strength. Past Nenggao Main Peak, it's downhill the whole way; about 1K brings you to Taiwan Pond Campground, and another 800m or so to Dalu Pond Campground.
Within 20 minutes of descending northwest from Dalu Pond Campground, there's a running water source; in the autumn-winter dry season the flow isn't strong but it's enough — remember to bring a cup, which makes it easier to fill your water bladder in batches.
