D1 Itinerary

From the Dalu Forest Road to the Dabajian Mountain trailhead (Madara Creek Trailhead) there are two route options and three transportation options — ☑️ marks what I chose; readers can pick whichever suits them. Details below:

You can rent an e-bike from the container next to the Guanwu parking lot, then use bungee cords to secure your pack evenly on the rear rack before setting off. Since the Dalu Forest Road is mostly loose gravel and dirt, rain inevitably brings mud and puddles, and there are also several risky climbs and descents along the way — ride carefully, and get off and walk the bike if you need to.

On this trip, around 5.2K there was a barrier line warning of falling rocks — I'd recommend a climbing helmet or bike helmet while riding, which covers both bases. Also, just past 14K there's the Dongxian Waterfall, spectacular with plenty of water in the rainy season.

Eventually you reach the 17K bicycle parking area, where you can leave your rented bike, and there are stone tables and benches to rest at. From there, there are two ways to the Dabajian Mountain trailhead: walk 2 kilometers, or take the shortcut next to the bike parking area, a steep descent of about 200 meters that takes around 10 minutes to reach the trailhead.

Once at the trailhead, it's a single trail for another 4 kilometers, climbing 949 meters, to reach 99 Hut.
