Segment times are from my own track — my pace, not advice; guidebook times are transcribed verbatim from Sunriver Culture's step-time charts (Gaoshan Baiyue topographic maps), a public yardstick. Every station's position and name was checked by hand and aligned with Sunriver's naming, so names and elevations match what hikers actually call them. Route is for reference only.This route wasn't planned — it's a GPS-recorded log of my own hike in May 2025: the Dabajian peaks, three days, four Baiyue peaks, 60.9km in total, 2921m total elevation gain — of which 34.0km was the Dalu Forest Road round trip, done on an e-bike; the actual walking distance was 26.8km with 2243m of climbing. A few things to note:
- Of the four Baiyue peaks: Dabajian has been closed to summiting for over 20 years; Xiaobajian has a steep, roped climb in the last 200 meters; Yizhe Mountain and Jiali Mountain each have more than one route to the top, so feel free to adjust the plan to suit yourself.
- On Day 02, I forgot to pause the recording after getting back to 99 Hut, so it kept running until 23:05 that night — the total time in the exported file isn't the actual hiking time. In reality, I set out from 99 Hut at 3:30 am, Dabajian and Xiaobajian round trip took about 6 hours, then I went back for Yizhe and Jiali, getting back to the hut after 9 hours and 44 minutes total for the day.
- There are three ways to cover the 17K Dalu Forest Road round trip: walking, a regular bicycle, or an e-bike. I used an e-bike this time (rentable from the container near the Guanwu parking lot — use bungee cords to balance your pack evenly on the rear rack). The forest road has plenty of loose stone and dirt, gets muddy and puddled after rain, and has several risky climbs and descents — when in doubt, get off and walk it.
- Around 5.2K on the forest road, there's a barrier line warning of falling rocks — I'd recommend wearing a climbing helmet or bike helmet while riding, which covers both bases.
- Dabajian has been off-limits to climbing for over 20 years — the trail only goes as far as the base of the rock tower, where there's a metal sign marking the elevation near the top. Please don't attempt to climb further.
- The last 200 meters of Xiaobajian has several very exposed, near-vertical roped sections. The summit view is great, but I'd suggest only well-prepared hikers attempt this peak.
- Both Yizhe Mountain and Jiali Mountain can be done as an out-and-back or as a loop back to the main trail: the loop section on Yizhe is very steep with several near-vertical roped sections, and in the rain both the mud underfoot and the tree trunks and ropes you grab are slippery; the loop section on Jiali doesn't need ropes, but it's arrow bamboo the whole way, so in bad weather your face will get thoroughly washed.
- If your bike breaks down, you don't have to force it back — just walk back to the container at Guanwu and report roughly which K of the forest road it broke down at, with a photo of the bike.
- When the weather's good, the Dabajian peaks offer endless photo opportunities. But in poor weather, carrying a full pack over 30-plus kilometers round trip on the Dalu Forest Road tests your endurance more than actually summiting the four Baiyue peaks.
- This GPX keeps the original timestamps — that's the record of my own pace, not a suggested pace; hikers should judge by their own condition and the weather. Every track point has a timestamp.
The switch point between full pack and summit pack is at 99 Hut. Actual conditions on the ground take priority over this record.
