Segment times are from my own track — my pace, not advice. Every station's position and name was checked one by one.Route is for reference only. This route wasn't planned — it's a record of a hike I did myself in April 2026, GPS-tracked the whole way: a one-day traverse up the Gwaneumsa Trail and down the Seongpanak Trail, with a side trip to the Sara-Oreum viewpoint and lake. Actual distance 19.1 km, total ascent 1487 m, about 7 hours 40 minutes overall. A few things to note:
- Includes the Sara-Oreum viewpoint / Sara-Oreum crater lake
- The Gwaneumsa side is almost all stairs going up
- Past Baengnokdam, heading down toward Seongpanak, there's a lot of volcanic rock terrain — not every rock is stable, so keep your steps small when descending
- There are 2 shelters with toilets before Baengnokdam, and another 2 with toilets after it on the way down
- None of the toilets have water, so bring wet wipes
- The trail is well maintained — dense vegetation and pine forest at low elevation, blooming azaleas and a sea of clouds at mid elevation. Well worth a visit on a clear day.
- Hallasan National Park requires reservations and enforces entry-time cutoffs — check the day's rules before you go, latecomers will be turned back
- Baengnokdam is a crater lake — you can only view it from the ridge, descending into the crater is not allowed
- This GPX keeps the original timestamps — that's a record of my own pace, not a recommended pace. Judge your own pace by your own condition and the weather. Every track point has a timestamp.
