Segment times are from my own track — my pace, not advice; guidebook times are transcribed verbatim from Sunriver Culture's step-time charts (Gaoshan Baiyue topographic maps), a public yardstick. Every station's position and name was checked by hand and aligned with Sunriver's naming, so names and elevations match what hikers actually call them. Route is for reference only.This route wasn't planned — it's a GPS-recorded log of my own hike in March 2026: Baigu Dashan, three days, one Baiyue peak, 18.4km actual distance, 2222m total elevation gain. A few things to note:
- Most of the trail is pine needles, fallen arrow bamboo leaves, and dirt — light traction spikes help with stability.
- There are pieces of broken glass at the pine forest campsite — watch your feet.
- Since water isn't scarce on Baigu, there's no need to specifically camp beside the exposed Qingcaochi pond — pick a sheltered campsite instead.
- This trip was a leisurely three-day group hike; since our group was small, we stopped on day one at Waypoint 9, the Porters' Tarp Campground reached by turning in 4.1K from the trailhead. For a two-day trip, I'd suggest carrying water on day one all the way to Waypoint 14, Guitar Campground, 6.5K from the trailhead, before resting.
- Almost the whole route has tree cover. There are several running-water points along the way, marked with a water sign at the relevant waypoints — after opening the valve to fill up, make sure to close it tightly again. The spring water is generally fine to drink directly, though a filter will give you more peace of mind.
- Day 02 starts at 4:00 am from the Porters' Campground, with fallen trees the whole way and the trail growing steadily steeper. Guitar Campground isn't large, but it's sheltered the entire way except at the entrance and exit, good for blocking wind and rain — for a two-day round trip, it's worth the extra effort on day one to carry water and camp here.
- In the boulder field, follow the yellow ropes that have been set up. Most of the rocks are stable — avoid ones covered in moss or lichen, and when it's wet, gloves and scrambling with both hands and feet are recommended.
- The Baigu Dashan triangulation point is fully exposed on all sides, with a broad open area that can hold quite a few people — worth lingering a bit to enjoy the view.
- The return follows the same route; the second half goes up and down frequently, mixing ropes, fallen trees, and steep sections — it feels about as tiring as the way up. If you're getting frustrated, slow down or take a break, and only keep moving once you're focused.
- This GPX keeps the original timestamps — that's the record of my own pace, not a suggested pace; hikers should judge by their own condition and the weather. Every track point has a timestamp.
The switch point between full pack and summit pack is at the Porters' Campground. Actual conditions on the ground take priority over this record.
