This route has not been walked, so there are no measured segment times on this page: the times are transcribed verbatim from Sunriver Culture's step-time diagrams and are a shared yardstick, not my pace. Every station's position and name was checked one by one and follows Sunriver's naming, so names and elevations match what hikers recognise.Route is for reference only.This route has not been walked yet. Eight days, six of Taiwan's hundred peaks (Xiuguluan, Mabolasi, Penjushan, Malijianan, Maxi, Kaxipanan), 79 km; the line is computed by BRouter over OpenStreetMap's hiking network. Nine things to note:
- The Batongguan historic trail section is not new work. Day one and the first half of day two reuse the coordinates from this site's Batongguan Mountain trip, and Xiuguping, Xiuguluan Mountain and the two gold-mine cabins reuse points from my own November 2025 South Section 2 track -- same point, same name, same elevation.
- The shape of the line has been checked against three public recorded walks (Hikingbook: August 2021 with 48 named waypoints, October 2025 and November 2025; all eight days, in from Dongpu and out down the Zhongping forest road): median deviation 12 to 17 metres over the whole route, nine points in ten within 63 to 192 metres. Of 42 stations, 38 fall within 13 metres of at least one of those tracks. Their elevations are not adopted.
- The trailhead sits 554 metres from where those three parties began. This site pins it at the Dongpu hot-spring car park -- ordinary cars stop there, and a route drawn long is the one a walker can rely on (MG, 2026-09-10). All three started recording further in. That is a record, not an error.
- Day two has two variants and this route takes the commoner one. Two of the three records climb Batongguan Mountain West Peak from the meadow before dropping to the gold-mine cabin; one stays on the historic trail. This route follows the two. Batongguan Mountain itself is not drawn: it is one of the hundred peaks, but only one record took it in, and a planned line has to have been checked against somebody's actual walk. That summit belongs to this site's Batongguan Mountain trip.
- Bugan Mountain is not drawn either. The 2021 party took it out and back from the Mabugu cabin; the other two did not, and it is not one of the hundred peaks.
- Sunriver's G16 chart carries two saddles under the same name. One lies between Maliyawenlushan East Peak and Malijianan Mountain, the other between the junction before Mabolasi and the old Xiuma cabin site. We had transcribed them as a single node, which cut the Xiuguluan branch off from the main line and left that stretch with no segment times at all. Reading the scan split them, and the chain closed. A shared name meaning two places caught us twice on this route; the other was Taiping Valley.
- Three summits have their height from two camps. Xiuguluan 3829, Mabolasi 3776 and Malijianan 3561 are what OpenStreetMap and Sunriver's G16 both give; the English and Japanese Wikipedia hundred-peaks tables give 3825, 3785 and 3546. The site uses the former and records the disagreement in each station's elevation source rather than quietly picking one (CLAUDE.md 1).
- Day eight's line is only 12 km while the forest-road mileposts run 26.5 km from 43K to 16.5K. That is not an error: the walked route drops to the creek bed and cuts, rather than following the road's bends. All three records hug this line along that stretch, median 13 metres.
- There is no guide's itinerary. The eight-day split was confirmed day by day against the 2021 record's own daily start and finish. Sunriver's G16 segments sum to 61 hours 54 minutes. On the ground, follow the actual conditions and your guide; once it has been walked, this page will be replaced by my own recorded track.
The switch points between full pack and summit pack are at Mabolasi Cabin (Day 04) and the Maxi Mountain and Kaxipanan Mountain trailheads (Day 07). Actual conditions on the ground take priority.
